Break Routine and Create Excitement

Break Routine and Create Excitement

There have been countless Christmas parties, or summer BBQ’s where I’ve had the opportunity to meet you new people. I consider these social settings a great way to just get away from daily stress and unwind. Often times I will run into people who complain about the lack of time to do something fun. Rather they get burdened by the pressures of work or other commitments that don’t necessarily occupy the amount of time that some may suggest. Sound familiar?

The truth of all is if you don’t plan out certain events that you would like to take place…they wont happen. For example, my wife and I set a goal that we would each take up an extra circular activity. We both have busy work schedules but we plan it into our weekly routine. We treat attending these activities no differently than attending work…unless there is an emergency, you should be there. I took up cooking while my wife did Salsa dancing. The best thing about doing different things is it gives each of us the ability to share what we learned and spend quality time with one another while doing it. In order to do this, we have planned certain things in our life such as days that are “my” days, “us” days and general work days. These days are not set in stone so we allow for flexibility in our life but its a mutual agreement.

Experience has taught me that breaking routine creates excitement. Trying new and different things, creating challenges for yourself and your relationship will help you cope when times are rough. If things take a temporary downturn and you’re within a routine, chances of you getting out of a rut will be difficult. However, if you do hit a downturn and break routine, you always have something positive to look forward to. Be kind to yourself and create some time for you to do something you enjoy. You work hard all day and its time you reward yourself for a job well done.
