Making the Best of The Economy

hammer

There is no doubt that the current economy is near crisis mode. Unemployments rates have gone up substantially, there is marginal economic growth in some places in north america while a decline in others. Bills are piling up and you feel like nothing is working. What most people don’t know is their economic work to others. What I mean by this is, there are individuals that have a talent, hidden talent, or hobby that can help them make some extra cash on the side. For example there was an article I read online of a man who was let go from his job due to a restructure who also made paintings on the side. He didn’t even think of selling them, rather it was just his hobby. Once day his son designed a webpage and posted his paintings online. A few weeks later he started to get emails from buyers that were interested in his art work. Another example was a highly educated accountant that was restructured out who later found his passion for private teaching and has made ends meet since. There are a lot of skills that we all possess but would never think to monetize from it. You would be surprised with what you think you know about yourself but really don’t know. Here are some really good ways to make some money on the side

  • Start your own blog – Blogs can be a great way to make some added income. While most blogs wont earn enough to buy a fancy yacht or a luxurious mansion, it can help generate some extra side income.
  • Handy work around the house – if you know how to fix a leak or repair a broken window or even install flooring, this could be a great source of income. If you’re not licensed or certified be prepared to be more competitive in pricing than those that are certified.
  • Dog Walking ┬áhas become a great way to make some money on the side. If you have a passion for animals and enjoy the outdoors then I would treat this as getting paid for something you love to do rather than consider it as a job
  • Teach others – If you have a specific skill like photography, web design, math, art, science etc that you are really good at then consider teach other adults and children.
  • Sell Things – if you know how to make things from bracelets, jewellery, arts/crafts then avenues such as eBay/Craigslist can be a great way to sell things. Ask yourself whether you have a skill you can market as well

One thing to keep in mind is that the economy is tough right now and you are not the only one in the circumstance that you’re in. There are others in the same situation who are all dealing with it one way or another. So its time for you to find the entrepreneur in you and aspire to make money. You never know, this could become a full time reality which can prove to be quite lucrative in the future.
