Lock in that Raise

Do you think you’re a hard worker, often work harder and longer hours than others? Do you think you deserve an off cycle raise but fear that you will be shot down and considered “greedy”? Well you and millions of North Americans share this view but let me remind you that of those millions of North Americans will include people like your boss and your boss’s boss. Fact is we all work to earn a pay cheque so that we can pay bills and keep a little for enjoyment. I’m sure you work hard for your money and if in fact you have worked harder than others on your team then thats a point that needs to be raised. Your boss won’t walk into your office one day and just offer you a raise. You need to ask just like anybody else. Remember this thought likely runs through your bosses mind as well so forget about feeling greedy, you are just asking for the additional work you have put in. Furthermore, provide a list of accomplishments and emails from others stating your good performance. If he/she truly values you as an employee he/she will put some serious thought into it. So walk in with some confidence and tell them why you feel you deserve that raise. After all you have to chase after success and not wait for it to present itself. So get that action plan together and get that raise.
